I HAVE SOMETHING TO ROAR ABOUT!
Last weekend I was a guest vendor at the Panama City Market Place and had an amazing experience. I drove to this place expecting it to be like so many other book signing events where I had to lugged my books, struggled to set up a table and then had to wait on people to come by and inquire why I was there. To my surprise, my host Dawn Castle, met me in the parking lot, hugged me and helped me get into the establishment where she had a lovely table pre-arranged at the front door waiting for me. If that didn’t make me feel special, I had people waiting for me to arrive so they could buy my books. The disposition I had prior to arriving at the venue changed instantly and I could relax and not be totally business minded and guarded. I was free to be me and it felt grand.
All morning the place was buzzing with love and comradery. When I asked about the market, Dawn’s heart swelled with pride. She couldn’t wait to show me around and tell me about each vendor as if they were her own children. She was so proud of what was transpiring, her dream of getting, ‘unity’ back into ‘community’, was taking place within this market environment.
I watched and listened as live music kept the place happy and entertained. Food vendors keep people fed. Hugs were freely given, and hands were offered when needs arose, it was a beehive of pure joy. The wares were beautiful and lovingly made or refurbished and the artwork painted all over the place was fantastic. I can’t wait to go back as a customer.
If you are in the Panama City, Florida area, this place is located at 257 W. 15th Street. It will be worth your time to see how commerce should be; a group effort with a sharing mindset instead of a grasping and grabbing one.
If you see Dawn..tell her I said hi.
