‘Author Talk Interview Session’ was created to promote fellow authors and their work. The interview questions will spotlight the guest writer, show them love, peace and respect by allowing them to tell you about their books, other projects and plans to promote. It is also designed to give an author who reads the blog interview posted, insights on how they can grow and share in this huge literary field. This blog interviews will be posted on Facebook, Goodreads, LinkedIn, Pinterest, and NetworkedBlogs.
RAVEN’S MISSION STATEMENT: I firmly believe God’s way of doing business is the best method. When we join hands with each other it not only helps us learn and grow it creates bonds between fellow authors. As team players, we learn to share instead of competing, grasping and grabbing for recognition and financial gain.
GUEST: SHARON FRENCH
I truly enjoyed Sharon’s interview session but I must be honest, I contacted Sharon and asked her for an interview. Reason for me asking her to participate is simple, Sharon connected with me on LinkedIn early on, and we became friends. She is an engaging lady with a lot of spunk, drive and willingness to help people. As our conversations increased I was intrigued by her story and started following her work. I too was a former fatty so I have to stay informed of ways to stay motivated and healthy.
I also learned a few new tricks of the trade by her review. I hope you enjoy this session as much as I did.
Sharon French lost 130 pounds by eating delicious food and exercising intensely. Sharon photographs, films and writes about the new life she got when she turned from obese to thin in her early fifties. What is it like when no one recognizes you? What is it like when you don’t recognize yourself? What is it like to have opportunities and abilities you never dreamed of even as a child due to your poor health and obesity? No longer “The Fat Lady in Accounting”, Sharon has dedicated her life to letting others know they do not have to suffer the agony of obesity.

Sharon French AUTHOR TALK INTERVIEW Q&A
- What genre do you write?
Most of my work is non-fiction, inspirational and “How To”, on the topics of weight loss, body acceptance and health. Losing “Half My Size” in my early fifties taught me that much of what we think we know about diet, exercise and health is wrong. My passion is to bring this information to others who don’t believe they can lose weight and be healthy too.
I also portray the new life I got after this weight loss. Turning from a sedentary accountant to an active photojournalist has been an exciting challenge with new options every day. When I was obese, I did not begin to imagine this life. I predicted none of what has happened to me. I document everything as best I can to inspire others.
- What inspired you to write?
I have been a writer since I could hold a pencil. My father encouraged me from a young age and I have always been writing as part of my various jobs. The difference now is that I am writing about my interests instead of writing procedures manuals and university courses as I did in the past.
Now I study obesity, weight loss, food, and exercise while writing, photographing and filming the steps I think will help others.
- What have you written?
Here is my Amazon Author Page which lists all my books.
I cover the excuses that kept me obese for fifty years in Your Weight Loss Journey Overcome Obesity Excuses. Included are the strategies that allowed me to finally put my health first. After years of thinking I would do it later, I finally did do it. I attained my goal weight in 2011 and have maintained easily ever since. I learned that my excuses were all that held me back from good health. Today, I watch out my excuses don’t creep back into my life and it works well for me. I know others can also benefit from this knowledge and ability. All they have to do is know the steps and believe in themselves enough to try. My passion lies in convincing others to take that chance on themselves.
I have two books on the topic of Dry Skin Brushing. This inexpensive DIY method of skin care and detox has made a huge change in my life and I am so eager for others to try it. The Dry Skin Brushing Survival Guide is a beginning “How To” book and 30 Days to Dry Skin Brushing is a guide to getting ready to start this wonderful practice. I wrote the second book after I ran into so many people who want to do Dry Skin rushing, but have huge obstacles to getting started. It is an emotional experience for some to start and a physical difficulty for others. In either case, I lay out steps to give the best chance of success.
I Have Loose Skin on My Feet was written a couple of years after I lost my weight. Though my feet were now size 8.5, my foot skin was still size 10. Once I started blogging about this strange state of affairs, the internet responded with high traffic so I decided a book was needed. I describe the natural remedies I used to re-condition and improve my foot skin. In the process, I became much more confident while walking and lessened the pain I used to feel. Anyone with feet can benefit from this book!
- How many books do you have published?
Four – as listed above.
- Who is your publisher?
I am self-publishing using Amazon and the Kindle program. Soon I plan to convert my books to print on demand through Create Space as well. This is on my “To Do” list for 2015 based on some reader feedback and author friends who tell me this step will make a great impact on book sales.
- What are you promoting at the moment?
I am also a photographer and show my work here at my artist website. My photography is also tied into my weight loss and I am working on improving and marketing that part of my platform in Spring 2015. My current goal is uploading and promoting 5 photos a day until I have over 500. Apparently, photography is even more of a numbers game than publishing. My photo site sells prints, notecards, throw pillows and phone covers. I am in a whole new world of learning over there and I think I found a great place to tell more of my story of hope about health.
I am continually tweeting and pinning and stumbling all my work in efforts to promote my message. This year I have automated some of my social media posting and so far that is working well. My engagement and connections are growing so I am very optimistic. I follow anyone and I have made many wonderful connections on this journey.
- Do you enjoy meeting people and promoting your work?
No! I am a hermit with health problems and great fears about how I look now. I’m also an accountant and a loner from way back. Any personal contact takes a great deal of effort for me. The internet is ideal as I write much better than I speak. Oddly enough, I enjoy public speaking and I am considering options as part of my brand development and marketing efforts.
- Would you travel and do speaking engagements to promote your book(s)?
Yes, I definitely would travel if the right opportunity came about. In the almost four years since I won my battle with weight, I have learned that weight loss discussions are very difficult. I have a long list of failed one-on-one conversations in my attempts to give advice or even just to tell what I did to get where I am today. My advice is that slow and simple methods will help anyone achieve the good health I enjoy. This is not as appealing as “Lose 20 pounds in 20 days!” At this point I am holding off from those interactions and working on what I do better.
- List some places you would like to visit and meet fans?
My best venue would be at a convention or group event. I can meet and greet and I can give presentations. I’ve also been considering visiting weight loss groups or fitness centers to tell my story. However, I need to consider the number of hours in a day and my priorities. For 2015, my first writing priority is to publish more books. After I have 20+ published, I will consider putting my energy elsewhere.
- Tell us your successful methods of promoting?
I am a marketing failure! Here are the marketing posts I have at my main site. This is one of the topics I most research, work on and write about, yet I have not succeeded in any of my sales goals. My ongoing project to improve sales is at the top of my mind every day.
The most success I have is with one on one contacts. They follow me somewhere, contact me on one of my social media sites, and after some back and forth, they buy a book or donate or buy a photo or pillow. It all adds up, but it is a lot of work for small return. However, most of my buyers at Amazon are not known to me. They will increase as my reviews and number of books increases (I plan).
- Are you planning to write more books?
Yes. I’m currently working on Your Weight Loss Journey Winning the Food Fight. I chronicle the food changes I made and recommend to others. They are simple and inexpensive, but they do take effort and a change of mindset. This is why my book about excuses came first.
I’m also creating recipe books in support of the food book. These are for specific “Weird Foods” I recommend that people have probably not been eating in the past. I am thrilled with these cookbooks and excited that they will be published very soon.
- Where can we purchase your work?
My books are available at Amazon and also through a link on my website to a Selz account I have. I found out after publishing my first book that many people are not willing to buy from Amazon. This was a surprise to me. I set up the Selz account with the same eBooks for those Amazon-shy people and they do buy from me there.
- In what formats can we purchase your book(s)? (ex. a. paperback b. E-book audio)
My books are all eBooks now. When I have more time, I will figure out the print-on-demand procedures and set up all my books as paperbacks.
- How can we keep up with your journey?
Here are all of the links to my sites and social media. I’m most active on Twitter and Pinterest and I seek followers everywhere.

- Is there a way for fans to ask you questions?
Yes! My Author Page at Goodreads is set up to take questions. If you are a Goodreads member it is very easy to use. I have already answered a few questions and I am thrilled to have the contact, so ask away!
Anyone can email me at firstname.lastname@example.org, and many do. Weight loss is a very personal issue and it is hard for people to talk about openly. I gladly speak to anyone who reaches out in any way.
If your book gets chosen for a movie, who would you like to play the main characters?
Wouldn’t that be something? The biggest character in all my books is me. I don’t watch TV or movies, so I can’t really say who would be a good fit. It such a miracle ever came to pass, I think I would take the money on the condition that I never hear another word about it after that.
