‘Author Talk Interview Session’ was created to promote fellow authors and their work. The interview questions will spotlight the guest writer, show them love, peace, and respect by allowing them to tell you about their books, other projects and plans to promote. It is also designed to give an author who reads the blog interview posted, insights on how they can grow and share in this huge literary field. This blog interviews will be posted on Facebook, Goodreads, LinkedIn, Pinterest, and NetworkedBlogs.
RAVEN’S MISSION STATEMENT: I firmly believe God’s way of doing business is the best method. When we join hands with each other it not only helps us learn and grow it creates bonds between fellow authors. As team players, we learn to share instead of competing, grasping and grabbing for recognition and financial gain.
GUEST: Phyllistene Lawson
I want to welcome Phyllistene to my blog spot. I visited her web page after we connected on LinkedIn and I was in awe of what I read. I immediately contacted her and ask if I could have her as my guest on Author Talk Interview Session. I’m sure you will enjoy her story as much as I did.
Phyllistene Lawson’s (copy/pasted) questionnaire answers:
- What genre do you write?
Quilt of Souls is a memoir
- What inspired you to write?
I was inspired by my Grandmother’s life. Her love of quilt-making and the stories that were woven into her quilts with pieces of clothing belonging to loved ones long since passed. These people endured unimaginable hardships. She kept their memory alive by stitching pieces of their clothing together and turning them into beautiful quilts. It was a way to honor their strength and courage and to bring them back to life. She was a spiritual woman who possessed deep faith and biblical principles. I always knew the stories my Grandmother passed on to me, I would one day put it into words. I think deep down inside, she knew that, and that’s why she shared them with me.
- What have you written?
I self-published a book about six years ago about my Great Grandfather Josh Horn and the Slave Narratives. During the 1930’s, he was interviewed by Ruby Pickens Tartt. Her interviews featured Josh’s experiences as a slave. He was a storyteller whose works are in the Library of Congress. I wrote this book to bring awareness to the Slave Narratives and their contributions to American History.
- How many books do you have published?
I have published one previous book. Josh Horn and Ruby Pickens Tartt: An Unlikely Alliance. My upcoming book, Quilt of Souls, is due to be released in late March.

If… your book gets chosen for a movie, who would you like to play the main characters?
I would love for Viola Davis to play the part of my Grandmother. She possesses the facial features and mannerisms of my Grandmother. The person who’d fit in the role of my Grandfather is Danny Glover.
