‘Author Talk Interview Session’ was created to promote fellow authors and their work. The interview questions will spotlight the guest writer, show them love, peace, and respect by allowing them to tell you about their books, other projects and plans to promote. It is also designed to give an author who reads the blog interview posted, insights on how they can grow and share in this huge literary field. This blog interviews will be posted on Facebook, Goodreads, Pinterest, LinkedIn, Twitter, and Networkedblogs.
RAVEN’S MISSION STATEMENT: I firmly believe God’s way of doing business is the best method. When we join hands with each other it not only helps us learn and grow it creates bonds between fellow authors. As team players, we learn to share instead of competing, grasping and grabbing for recognition and financial gain.
I want to welcome Rodica Iova to Author Talk Interview Session. Rodica and I met through Christian Indie Authors. This woman is amazing. I hope you enjoy her interview as much as I did.
I was born in Romania under the communists.
My mom and dad worked in a factory, always in fear of being followed and exposed as Christians and lose their jobs.
It was sad for my family when, as a teen, I declared I was an atheist. But that didn’t last long and when I was 18 years old I dedicated my life to God.
I started to write when I was twelve and had my early poems and short stories published in school booklets and in the city’s papers.
I was a teacher in public schools in Timisoara, Romania for many years and a Sunday school teacher in church.
My ex-husband and I have four children, all adults and living in Southern California where I live.
They say I have the gift of encouragement, and that the people are motivated to follow their dreams when I give inspirational speeches.
I believe in lifting others’ wings and help them soar.
My wings were lifted up like that and I’m grateful.
Rodica Iova’s (copy/pasted) questionnaire answers:
- What genre do you write?
I write children’s books, short stories, novels, poems, plays, and songs.
- What inspired you to write?
My dad. During the long winters in Romania, I liked to sit next to him before going to bed and ask him for a story. I can hear him clearing his throat and starting a new one.
- What have you written?
While, in Romania, I wrote numerous short stories with values and poems in the Romanian language, and they were read and recited in the protestant churches since 1977. They say many people found hope that way. There was a need for children plays on various themes in churches. I wrote many, and they were passed along from church to church. There was a need for worship songs as well. We had them in English only and I translated and adapted many in Romanian. I often was invited to write articles for Christian magazines in Romania and Austria.
- How many books do you have published?
I have 9 books published while in Romania in the Romanian language: 4 Christian novels, 3 children’s books and 2 volumes of poems. After coming to the US in 2005, I had to perfect my English (I’m still working to improve it) and 17 months ago I started self-publishing children’s books. The Lord made it so prolific that I have more than 20 books out there, publishing one or two every month and doing the illustrations. (A dear friend did the illustrations for the first two and then I took the lead.) The Romanian readers asked me for these books in the Romanian language, and yes, it’s hilarious, I’ve started translating some of my children’s books from English to Romanian and self- publishing them on Amazon EU. Right now I’m working on the second draft of my 70,000 words youth novel “Grandpa from Transylvania” and also finishing a novel about living under the communists I have written for NaNoWriMo in 2013.

If your book gets chosen for a movie, who would you like to play the main characters?
Because most of my children’s books’ characters are dogs and cats and insects, the best way to have them in a movie would be the Cartoons.
